Hickory, North Carolina's J.T. Poston Wins The PGA Memorial

Dublin, Ohio (WNN) - J.T. Poston (James Tyree), a 2011 graduate from Hickory High School in Hickory, North Carolina, won the PGA Memorial Golf Tournament today, June 7th, 2026.  The Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club, sponsored by Workday and hosted by Jack Nicklaus, was Poston's 4th PGA Tour victory.  During an interview with CBS, Poston said he was determined to win and shake Jack Nicklaus's hand afterward.  The Memorial would be his greatest win to date.  The win followed a playoff with fellow golfer Ryan Gerard after a tie at 12 under 276 for both.  On the second playoff attempt on hole 18, Poston parred the hole with a 4; Gerard suffered a bogey with 5.  The Signature Event win secured 4 million dollars for Poston and guaranteed him a spot on the PGA Tour for the next 3 years.  In addition, he gains 3 Players Champion exemptions and earns a spot in the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale next month.  Poston earned 700 FedEx points for the win and is currently in 32nd, moving up 82 positions in the standings.  Poston had been void of a top 20 finish this 2026 season until today.

North Carolina Roots

Poston, born in Hickory, North Carolina, played golf for Hickory High School and then for Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina.  Additionally, in 2017, he earned his PGA Tour Card through the Web.com Tour.  Poston, 33, currently resides in St. Simons Island, Georgia, with wife Kelly and two children, Scottie and Grace.
