Gaston County, NC (WNN)- Voters across Gaston County elected new mayors and council members in Tuesday's municipal elections, with races decided in Cherryville, Gastonia, Belmont, and other municipalities.
According to the Gaston County Board of Elections, only 17,000 ballots were cast out of 106,375 registered voters for the Nov. 4, 2025, election. This means 16.16% of Gaston County voted. This is well below the NCSBE's reported 2022 average for North Carolinians of 51.14%.
Below is a breakdown of the unofficial 2025 election results:
Wade Stroupe had no opponents in the race to become Cherryville's mayor. He secured 411 votes, amounting to 95.58% of the overall count. The city also chose Gary Freeman to represent Ward 1 and Jill Parker Puett to represent Ward 3; both candidates ran unopposed.
Meanwhile, Kings Mountain saw three competitive council races. Scott Neisler won the at-large seat, receiving 36 votes and accounting for 41.86% of the total. In Ward 1, Demetrios Koutsoupias won by a large margin, earning 853 votes, which made up 64.62% of the total.
