Update: Saturday, January 17th, 2026 - 3:00 PM - Authorities confirm Gideon Ferguson was found alive and safe approximately 1.5 miles from his home. More details to follow as they become available.
Iredell County, NC (WNN) — The FBI is assisting the Iredell County Sheriff's Office in finding 14-year-old Gideon Ferguson, who was last seen on Wednesday, January 14th, 2026. Detectives say someone dropped Ferguson off at his home on Watermoss Drive around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday; he has not been seen since.
Deputies and detectives have started ground searches and a thorough investigation since Gideon went missing. They have looked near Ferguson's home while investigators talk to people, check security videos, and get warrants to search electronic devices.
Authorities say worries have grown as no one has seen the child and temperatures have dropped low. As a result, police have put up billboards across North Carolina.
Ferguson’s name has also been added to the FBI’s online list of missing and at-risk children. This list appears on their website as well as on their social media pages, including ones for the Charlotte area and nationwide.
Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell has thanked the community for their continued support, calling Iredell County a tight-knit area that has played a role in spreading awareness about the search.
“We appreciate the community’s help and encourage everyone to continue sharing information, praying for Gideon’s family, and keeping those involved in the search in their thoughts,” Campbell said.
