Cherryville, NC (WNN) - Cherryville High School senior, Colton Robinson, finished tied for second to earn state runner-up honors in the 2026 NCHSAA State Championship Golf Tournament held at Gates Four Golf and Country Club in Fayetteville, NC, on May 11th and 12th. The championship consisted of two 18-hole rounds over two days, for a total of 36 holes. Robinson’s play has been consistently impressive all season as he has finished near the top in each match, culminating in his incredible play against 46 of the best 2A high school golfers in the state.

On day one, Robinson finished in 7th place on the par 72/6411-yard course. His score was 78, 6 over par, leaving him 4 strokes behind the leader. He was 38 out and 40 in. On Day two Colton Robinson turned in the top score of all golfers. He finished the second round of 18 with a score of 71, which was 1 under par. That gave him a total for both rounds of 149, 3 strokes behind state champion Bryce Miller of Mitchell High School.

Colton is a multi-sport athlete and member of the Class of 2026. During his final year of basketball, he began the year as a role player coming off the bench. His strong work ethic and determination saw him move up in the rotation and become a valuable member of the team by season’s end. He is also a member of the Ironmen baseball team. His speed and base-running ability have helped him become an asset on this team as well. Robinson rushed back to Cherryville after the golf tournament to join his baseball teammates as they played in the third round of their respective playoff tournament. This young man has shown that hard work and dedication go a long way toward not only improving an athlete individually but also helping improve the team.
