Cherryville, NC (WNN)- The Cherryville City Council members met for their monthly work session meeting on Tuesday, May 27th, 2025. They addressed parking concerns on Dixie Street, declared surplus property, and discussed ongoing community building renovations.
Dixie Street Parking Restrictions Unanimously Approved
The City Council unanimously voted to approve adding “no parking” signs on one side of South Dixie Street. City Manager Brian Dalton brought up the issue, noting it was prompted after a discussion with a resident of Dixie Street. Dalton mentioned it would be difficult for two vehicles, especially emergency vehicles such as fire trucks, to navigate the street when cars are parked on both sides of the street.
These restrictions would apply to the side of South Dixie Street that runs alongside Somerset Court, as there are no houses on that side of the street. Parking will still be allowed on the far side, where the apartments are.
The City Council also voted unanimously to declare around 10 portable power pedestals as surplus property. These are metal electrical units, with outlets, that had furnished temporary power for events and festivals on Main Street.
With the recent renovations to Main Street, permanent, in-ground power pedestals have been installed, making the portable units unnecessary. The city plans to sell the power pedestals on GovDeals.com.
Among other business, City Manager Brian Dalton updated the council on remodeling the city community building. Front doors, and weather permitting, the exterior of the building is to be painted this week by David Wright, whose work has already begun.
Much of the renovation will be framing and siding on the back of the building, as well as rotten wood. Dalton expects the painting will take a few weeks to finish after Wright begins.
Trees in front of the building will also be coming down, replaced with new landscape lights and mulch. The council also voted to take down the current canopies on the building because they serve little purpose with how much of an overhang there is. The canopies’ frames are scheduled to be removed on Wednesday, May 28th.
Councilwoman Jill Puett asked about the pots the Garden Club waters around the community building. City Manager Brian Dalton subsequently confirmed that they would also be added to the city’s watering list so they would receive appropriate attention. The potential to add more pots at a later time was also considered.
With no further business, the meeting adjourned without objection.
