Cherryville, NC (WNN) - Many Cherryville residents may have noticed temporary pressure drops throughout the day yesterday. City Manager Brian Dalton: “There was a water line break on Academy Street, in front of Farris Fab. Crews worked all day and throughout the night to correct the problem.” This has been resolved at this time. However, according to a press release from Water Superintendent Jason Stone, there was also a power issue with the distribution system, resulting in additional pressure losses. This has introduced the potential for “back siphonage” and for bacteria to be introduced into the system. This means that non-potable water may have flowed backward into the lines during the pressure loss.
Due to this, the city is currently under a boil advisory as of April 13th, 2026, until further notice. This means the water is not safe for consumption, as listed in the advisory at the beginning of the article. The city manager also asks that if you are experiencing discolored water, call in your location. The city of Cherryville's number is (704) 435-1700, and the Water Superintendent’s contact is (704) 740–0230.
