Cherryville, NC (WNN) - On Saturday, December 13, 2025, local churches and dedicated volunteers came together to serve a free Community Christmas Meal. The event was held at the Cherryville Community Center and served approximately 273 people. Those who enjoyed the meal included seniors and participants of the Meals on Wheels program.
The local churches that helped provide the meal included Rudisill Chapel AME Zion Church, Fairview Baptist Church, Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Zion Hill Baptist Church, Oak Grove AME Zion Church, Faith Temple Ministries, and Walls Memorial Baptist Church. The churches weren't alone in this effort. Many in the community also helped, donating food and money to ensure that those who came could eat for free.
Twenty-four volunteers came together to organize the three-hour event. They handled tasks such as preparing, serving, and packing up the food. Those who attended could either sit and eat together in the community building or take their meals home.
Event organizer Tamara Hardin explained the choice to hold a Christmas meal. "We discussed doing a Thanksgiving meal, but decided on a Christmas meal due to the amount of Thanksgiving meals being served in our area."
This year marked the first time for the Community Christmas Meal, but Hardin said the great turnout has helped them decide to hold it annually. The goal is to ensure that everyone has a warm meal during the holiday season.
