Cherryville, NC (WNN) - Winter Storm Fern mostly spared the Cherryville area as it blew in Saturday night. Sleet pelted the region overnight with a low of 16.9 degrees and throughout most of today, Sunday, January 25th, 2026. Sleet accumulations were around an inch. Freezing rain began around 4–6 pm in the Cherryville area, with accumulations less than 0.25 inches. During the falling rain, temperatures rose to 30 degrees. Road conditions are still poor as all roads are covered. Main roads such as Highway 150 (Church Street) in Cherryville have less coverage due to traffic volume, and secondary roads are covered.
The City of Cherryville has begun scraping secondary roads as of tonight. Duke Energy reported approximately 600 electric outages at 7 pm between Cherryville and Crouse, NC. Only sporadic outages are being reported. Monday morning, commuters will encounter very icy road conditions as overnight temperatures remain below freezing. Conditions should improve on Monday with sunny skies. However, temperatures Monday night will be in the single digits. Check out the video below with WNN reporter Rusty Wise.
