No One Does Homecoming Like Cherryville NC

Cherryville, NC (WNN) – No one does Homecoming like the Ironmen of the Cherryville, NC High School. It’s not just a routine football game where the game has an asterisk called Homecoming beside it. No, in Cherryville, Homecoming is a full-blown production event.
The Homecoming Game typically takes place on a Friday. However, the “spirit week” kicks off on Monday, each day having a specific theme. This year, the themes were Neon Day on Monday, Rhyme Day on Tuesday, Throwback Day on Wednesday, Character Day on Thursday, and Ironman Pride/Game Day on Friday.
Parade
The Cherryville High School (CHS) Homecoming Friday was September 20th, 2024, and started with a Homecoming Parade. The parade began at 4:00 PM and headed down Cherryville’s Main Street. The CHS Marching Band led the parade on this bright, sunny afternoon. Next came the long line of primarily convertibles, including vintage automobiles and new models. The automobiles were filled with high school students representing clubs, classes, and the Homecoming Court. Between the convertibles were the CHS football team and cheerleaders adorned in the CHS Ironman blue colors.
This year, the 2024 CHS Homecoming Court consisted of Chloee Stroupe, Alexis McSwain, Ava Miller, Camryn Cash, and Messiah Johnson.
During the Homecoming Parade, the Homecoming Court wore charming dresses, but for the Homecoming Game, they wore white ball gowns, white gloves, and fancy jewelry. They all looked like beautiful fairy tale characters.
The Homecoming Leader
Emilie Pope has been CHS Homecoming Event Organizer since 2008.
In an interview with Pope, she stated:
“We don’t rush things. I’ve been to so many homecomings through the years, traveling and watching football, and it’s like you blink, and it’s over. We take it as a production. You know, everybody gets their moment on the stage or on the podium. Everybody gets their chance to wave to their mom and their daddy in the crowd. We get as many kids as possible to be able to participate. And we take the whole halftime, I say, this is your moment, and you take it”.
Gametime
During the game, the CHS Homecoming Court rode around the track in white ball gown dresses at Rudisill Stadium in Cherryville, waving to the fans one last time before halftime.
During the halftime Homecoming production, each representative was announced with their escort on a pedestal in the center of the football field. Then, the final announcement for the 2024 CHS Homecoming Queen was made to the approximately 1500 in attendance.
The 2024 CHS Homecoming Queen is Ava Miller, escorted by Talon Dalton. She was crowned by the 2023 CHS Homecoming Queen Cenyia Powell.
After the crowning and riding around the track one last time and waving to fans, Miller stated:
“I prepared a lot, but walking in the big white dress was a little bit harder than I expected. Also, I want to wear the crown as a role model for younger kids and kids at schools so they have someone to look up to.”
Cherryville Homecoming
Cherryville, NC, goes all out for Homecoming. This year, they even had an airplane fly over during the National Anthem and had the courage to play the highly ranked Shelby, NC football team. From spirit week and parade to ballgowns, Cherryville’s Homecoming is genuinely unique. If you get a chance, it’s worth checking out.
